My Smile Is Upside Down Words and Music by Bill Pere My parents are imperious They tell me to be serious Keep my nose up to the grindstone for awhile So I work real hard and try Sometimes it makes me cry Then they tell me I should lighten up, brighten up, Have some fun and smile... So I fool around, acting like a clown Then the tell me "Keep both feet on the ground... When they think that I'm amused, I'm really just confused They can't see the smile I hide there inside, it's upside down In school I act real studious But my friends want Howdy Doodyus So I tell jokes and get them laughing in the aisle When I settle down and work My friends call me a jerk Then they tell me I should lighten up, brighten up, Have some fun and smile... So I fool around, acting like a clown Then the tell me "Keep both feet on the ground... When they think that I'm amused, I'm really just confused They can't see the smile I hide there inside, it's upside down Whenever there's a choice I try to do the thing that's right I always thought that everything was simple black and white With each infusion of confusion I can say That black and white illusion is a fusion that is gray... So I fool around, acting like a clown Then the tell me "Keep both feet on the ground... When they think that I'm amused, I'm really just confused They can't see the smile I hide there inside, it's upside down © Copyright Bill Pere. All Rights Reserved |
