High School, My School (Life 101)
words and music by Bill Pere

In every crowd there is a loser, There are those who always win
What book will help me know which group I'm in
(in High School, My School)

It's life reduced to schedules, blocks, and periods confined
The myriad mute musings of a mind
(in High School, My School, who's cool and who's the fool?)

I navigate the courses, do I pass or fail
Does it validate my value? Is it just to no avail?

It's life reduced to letters, A through F tells all,
On track and football sweaters on the wall
(in High School, My School)

Is it just chasing after BS, DVM or Ph.D ?
Success is just a matter of degree
(in High School, My School, who's cool and who's the fool?)

Mid-life crisis is a middle year exam
Will the comments in the margins tell me who I am?

It's life reduced to numbers, Sixteen hundred S-A-T's
Four-o GPA is sure to please
(in High School, My School)

When life's reduced to dashes between dates carved in a stone
In that final grand reunion, I'm alone
(in High School, My School, who's cool and who's the fool?)

Try-outs and auditions, do I make the team?
If I'm not anointed, do I laugh or do I scream?

When I take that final final, blanks are filled and choices made
In Life 101, did I make the grade?
(in High School, My School)

Never did the corporate ladder Never climbed or clawed or shoved
I only need to know that I was loved.
(in High School, My School, who's cool and who's the fool?)
